Unibind Spine Covers by Peleman are versatile thermal binding spines for flexible, custom document presentations. Unlike Crystal Flex Covers, these spines do not include attached clear or matte covers. Use your own front and back covers, Unibind CoverSets, printed title sheets, specialty paper, or bind without covers.
Formerly called SteelBack, Unibind Spine Covers use a steel spine with SteelResin™ thermal binding adhesive to create a clean, professional bind. Each spine includes a tear-away paper guide for easier loading on compatible Unibind thermal binding machines. Newer spine covers also support crimping for a tighter, more polished finished book.
Key Features
- Use your own covers with custom front and back covers, branded title sheets, specialty paper, clear covers, or no covers.
- Steel spine construction creates a clean, durable edge for professional bound documents.
- SteelResin™ adhesive bonds pages securely along the document edge without punching holes.
- Tear-away paper guide helps keep pages aligned while loading and binding.
- Crimp-ready design helps tighten the spine and seat pages more deeply into the adhesive.
- Editable bind allows small page changes in some cases by reheating the same bound document.
- Flexible format options support letter portrait, 11" x 17" landscape, and select letter landscape or top-bound applications.
- Compatible with Unibind and Peleman thermal binding systems.
Free vPaper Included with Every Box
Each box of Unibind Spine Covers includes one free 250-sheet ream of genuine Peleman vPaper. No coupon is required.
vPaper is premium presentation paper used for clean, professional Unibind documents. It is included as a bonus paper ream and is separate from the spine covers themselves.
Unibind Spine Size & Sheet Capacity
Choose the spine size based on sheet count and paper type. Standard 20 lb. paper allows a higher sheet count, while thicker 32 lb. presentation paper reduces the number of sheets that will fit.
| Spine Size | 20 lb. Paper | 32 lb. Paper | Box Qty. |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 / 03 mm | 20 sheets | 15 sheets | 100 pcs |
| 40 / 05 mm | 40 sheets | 30 sheets | 100 pcs |
| 60 / 07 mm | 60 sheets | 40 sheets | 100 pcs |
| 80 / 09 mm | 80 sheets | 65 sheets | 80 pcs |
| 120 / 15 mm | 120 sheets | 90 sheets | 60 pcs |
| 220 / 24 mm | 220 sheets | 145 sheets | 48 pcs |
| 340 / 36 mm | 340 sheets | 230 sheets | 24 pcs |
Using heavier paper, tabs, dividers, printed covers, laminated sheets, or specialty stock? Choose the next larger spine when the document is close to the maximum capacity.
Format Options
Use standard 11" spine covers for letter-size portrait documents and 11" x 17" landscape books bound along the 11" edge. For letter landscape documents or top-bound documents, use the 8" spine format.
How to Use Unibind Spine Covers
- Count the pages and choose the correct spine size from the capacity chart.
- Align the pages neatly and add your own front and back covers when desired.
- Place the document stack into the spine and center the pages against the thermal binding adhesive.
- Place the assembled document into a compatible Unibind thermal binding machine and complete the binding cycle.
- Allow the document to cool completely, then remove the tear-away paper guide at the perforation.
- Crimp the spine when a tighter finish is desired, especially for thicker documents.
Compatible Machines
Unibind Spine Covers work with compatible Unibind and Peleman thermal binding systems, including the UniBinder 60, UniBinder 120, UniBinder 8.1, and UniBinder 8.2.
Best Uses

How do I choose the right spine size?
Count the sheets, include any covers or inserts, and use the capacity chart for your paper weight. Choose the next larger spine if the document is close to the stated limit.
Do I need to crimp the spine?
Crimping is optional but recommended for thicker books or when you want a tighter finished bind.
Can I bind letter landscape or top-bound documents?

Easy to use
The Unibind system is very easy to use. I like the fact that our agents can do it themselves by dropping the listing presentation on the system, and in a few minutes, go out on a call. It's just so easy and simple!
