The cabinet is also impact tested with a 30-foot drop after the burn test, helping protect contents in conditions associated with building fires, falling debris, and structural collapse. This is one of the key differences between a true fireproof file cabinet and a standard metal office file cabinet.

This model also includes ETL 30-minute fire verification for common digital media such as hard drives, CDs, DVDs, and thumb drives. Important digital records should still be backed up off-site or in the cloud, but this rating provides additional short-term protection for certain media stored inside the cabinet.

Construction and Security

FireKing Classic lateral cabinets are built for long-term office use, fire resistance, impact protection, and secure document storage. The cabinet uses 100% gypsum fire-resistant insulation reinforced by a 1" x 2" lattice made of 14-gauge galvanized welded steel wire. Insulation between drawers helps each drawer act as a separate protected compartment.

The powder-coated finish is applied to all sides, including the bottom, and is designed to resist scratches and stains. Field-replaceable steel panels and drawer heads help extend the useful life of the cabinet if exterior damage occurs. Surface-mounted drawer pulls allow more insulation inside the drawer heads, improving the cabinet’s protective construction.

The UL-listed Medeco® high-security key lock provides stronger file security than a standard office cabinet lock. A two-position drawer catch allows access to certain drawers while drawers containing sensitive files can remain locked.

For the fastest delivery, choose one of our primary FireKing finish options: Black, Parchment, or Platinum. Additional FireKing powder-coated colors are available, including Arctic White, Ivory White, Tan, Taupe, Brown, Sand, Champagne, and Pewter. Non-primary colors typically require an additional 10-day lead time before shipment.

This cabinet weighs 416 lbs. and ships by freight on a 53-foot tractor trailer. Standard delivery is intended for commercial business locations with safe truck access, normal receiving hours, and either a loading dock, forklift, or accessible curbside freight area.

Most commercial deliveries are straightforward when the delivery location has normal freight access and the correct delivery option is selected at checkout. Before ordering, please confirm receiving hours, dock access, driveway clearance, and the delivery point.

Delivery Options

• Dock or Curbside Delivery: Best for commercial locations that can receive freight from a full-size truck. The cabinet is delivered on a pallet, and the customer is responsible for moving it from the delivery point.
• Inside Doorway or Garage Delivery: Available as an upgrade for qualifying commercial or residential locations. This service is intended for delivery just inside the first accessible doorway, lobby, receiving area, or garage. The cabinet remains packaged and on the pallet.
• Full-Service Set-in-Place Delivery: Available as an upgrade for qualifying locations with ground-floor or elevator access. This service includes uncartoning, placement, and removal of packaging materials.

Step Limit: Inside delivery and full-service delivery are limited to no more than 3 steps up or down. If your delivery requires more than 3 steps, stairs, tight turns, long carries, restricted truck access, floor protection, a certificate of insurance, a special appointment request, or other unusual site conditions, please contact us before placing your order.

Residential Deliveries: Residential delivery is available; however, this item is a very heavy freight shipment and is best suited for curbside or garage delivery when shipping to a residence. If full-service residential delivery is needed, we may require a delivery review before shipment to confirm truck access, driveway access, doorway clearance, and a safe delivery path. The delivery carrier may be unable to complete full-service delivery if the delivery area is too tight, difficult, or unsafe.
