Fireproof File Cabinets, Storage Cabinets & Safes

A 1-hour fire rating means the cabinet is tested to protect paper documents for at least 60 minutes under controlled fire-test conditions. A 2-hour fire rating extends that protection to at least 120 minutes. In general, a 2-hour cabinet is the better choice when you want a higher level of protection for irreplaceable records, longer evacuation times, or stricter internal document retention requirements.

Vertical fireproof cabinets store files front-to-back and take up less floor space. Lateral cabinets have wide, side-to-side drawers and are better for frequent access or higher capacity needs.

Most fireproof file cabinets ship from Indiana within 3–5 business days, depending on the model and availability. Delivery may take 1–2 weeks, depending on location and freight method. Contact us for specific model lead times.

A loading dock is preferred to receive fireproof file cabinets or safes, as they ship on freight trucks. However, if one is not available, many models offer a liftgate delivery option or free full-service delivery.

Full-service, or "white glove" delivery is available with most units.  For all Phoenix Safe brand units, each order included full service delivery for no addtiional fee.  

For paper records, the usual target is UL Class 350. That standard is designed to keep the interior temperature low enough to protect paper during a fire. On actual file cabinets, the most common rating you’ll see is 1-Hour Class 350, while some models are available in 2-Hour Class 350 if you want longer protection. Choose a vertical fireproof file cabinet when you want a smaller footprint and traditional front-to-back filing. Choose a lateral fireproof file cabinet when you need wider drawers and easier side-to-side access for higher file volume. Choose a fireproof storage cabinet when you need to protect binders, archive boxes, or end-tab folders on shelves. Choose a fireproof safe when you are protecting smaller quantities of documents, valuables, or other sensitive contents rather than active filing.  Choose a Lithium-ion Battery Safe when you want need to store and charge lithium-ion batteries without worry of starting a fire. Choose a fireproof Safety Cabinets when you need storage more combustable, industrial product. 

If you are protecting paper records, look for a cabinet or safe with a UL Class 350 fire rating. If you are protecting digital media such as hard drives, backup media, or other temperature-sensitive electronics, you should choose a media safe or another model specifically rated for media protection, such as UL Class 125 or Class 150. Paper-rated cabinets are designed for documents, but digital media usually requires tighter temperature and humidity control during a fire.

That depends on the specific model. Some fireproof file cabinets are built for letter-size files only, while others are designed to handle legal-size or both letter and legal filing. Always check the product page carefully before ordering. Many of the legal size file have adaptar bars to convert the drawer to a letter size, providing you additional flexability.

A loading dock is usually the simplest and least complicated way to receive a fireproof cabinet. If you do not have a dock, many models can still be delivered with a liftgate service to bring the cabinet down to ground level. If you need the unit brought inside, placed in a specific room, or delivered through tighter conditions, full-service or white glove delivery may be the better option. Because these cabinets are heavy, it is smart to review your building access, doorway widths, turns, stairs, and final placement area before ordering.
