Frequently Asked Questions

What does UL Class 125 mean?

Class 125 is a media fire rating designed to keep the safe interior below 125°F during the fire test. This is important because many tapes, discs, cartridges, and electronic storage formats can be damaged at lower temperatures than paper.

Will the Phoenix 2001 hold LTO or DLT tapes in cases?

Yes. Typical capacities include 14 LTO tapes in cases or 12 DLT tapes, along with CDs and other cartridge formats listed above.

Is this safe designed for digital media or paper files?

The Phoenix 2001 is designed primarily for digital media protection. It can also hold small quantities of important paperwork, but its main purpose is protecting media that requires lower internal temperatures than a standard paper fire safe.

How does the impact test help?

The impact test is designed to simulate severe fire conditions where a safe may fall through a weakened floor. The safe is heated, dropped 30 feet, and reheated as part of the impact and afterburn testing process.

Does this safe help protect against water exposure?

Yes. The DataCare design uses tight seals to help resist water intrusion from sprinkler spray and fire hose streams during emergency response.

Who typically uses the Phoenix 2001?

The Phoenix 2001 is commonly used by banks, credit unions, financial institutions, law firms, small businesses, and home offices that need compact, certified protection for backup media.
