File Folder Tab Styles

Tab style describes both where the label appears and how much of the folder edge the tab occupies. Select a tab that remains visible in your cabinet or shelf and matches the folders already in use.

• Top tab: Read from above in file drawers, desktop organizers, and boxes.
• End tab: Read from the side on open shelving and well suited to color-coded labels.
• Straight-cut or full-cut: Provides the largest labeling area for longer descriptions.
• 1/3-cut: Uses left, center, or right tab positions and may be sold in one position or assorted.
• 1/5-cut: Uses five narrower positions to separate more categories within a drawer.

Letter-Size vs. Legal-Size File Folders

Folder size refers to the paper the folder is designed to hold—not simply the folder's outside dimensions. Confirm the document size and the available cabinet or shelf space before ordering.
